Big Spoon, Little Spoon

Big Spoon, Little Spoon

About a 6 months ago, Niko and I adopted Lily from my sister, Leanna and her son Mathew.  We were worried that she and Feynman (our cat of 8 years) wouldn’t get a long.  As you can see from the picture above, they are getting along just fine.  I woke up this morning to see them doing this.  It was too precious and I couldn’t resist getting a picture of the two of them.  Feynman is on the left, Lily is on the right.  As you can tell from the picture, we definitely have to get our cats on diets.  Before we left for vacation, the vet told me to put Lily on a diet when we got back.  Feynman is usually a good eater, but I guess with us gone, he was just eating and eating and got a little “rounder” while we were away.  Niko and I will work diligently to get them back in shape.

Tomorrow is cyber Monday – I’m looking forward to it.  I’m sure that I’ll have a lot of work to do tomorrow, but I plan on spending my lunch hour surfing the internet for deals for my family.  Niko is taking care of his side of the family and I’m responsible for mine.  My mom and her husband are all shopped for (we got them a flat screen television).  It’s just everyone else.  Dad, Leanna, Mike, Doug, Alan and Mathew (and Niko, of course).

I don’t want to go back to work tomorrow.  Vacation went by too quickly.  However, Christmas / Winter vacation is coming up and we’re headed to San Francisco for a late honeymoon.  A couple of years ago, we decided to do Christmas stuff on our own (so that we wouldn’t be travelling back and forth between our families over the holiday BREAK.)  Last year we didn’t, but we will see for years to come.

30n30 day 13 holiday November 28, 2008

Niko and I went up to Maine to visit with my family for the holiday.  We took my dad out to dinner on Wednesday and then we had Thanksgiving dinner at my mom’s house.  Surprisingly, the dinner was drama free and we had a good time.  It’s nice to be home after all the traveling that we’ve been doing as of late…and I think our cats are happy about it.  Later today, we’re headed up North for my nephew’s hockey game.  Little 7 year olds, slogging it out on the ice.  Should be interesting.

I’ve heard that if you do something for 21 days straight, you get into the habit of doing it and it becomes a natural part of your day.  So – here I am doing the 30n30 struggling for something to type.  I spent most of the day on the train coming back from Philly.  Tomorrow, we’re back on the train – on the way to Maine to spend time with my side of the family.  The exciting life of me.  Yippee.

30n30 day 11 “vacation” November 24, 2008

Today is officially mine and Niko’s first day of vacation.  I don’t count the weekend because we usually don’t need to work over the weekend.  The first day of vacation is that first day when you’re supposed to be at work – but you can sleep in and spend your day at the mall, watching television or reading or doing whatever the hell you want.  In our case, we slept in, had a solid breakfast, watched some television, ran around town looking for Stephenie Meyers’ third installment in her Twilight series (Eclipse) and came home.  Niko and his parents are playing Trivial Pursuit again and I laid on the couch and read the book.  We go back to Boston tomorrow (I have missed our cats like crazy) and then up to Maine on Wednesday.  All the while, sleeping in and doing what we want.

30n30 day 10 trivial pursuit November 23, 2008

I’m sitting here playing Trivial Pursuit with Niko’s parents.  I only need one more pie piece then I can go to the middle and take the whole thing.  Niko’s mom is close on my heals, Niko is catching up and his dad, I think…is unenthusiatic about playing.  We bought them the new 25th anniversary edition.  The one that they have is from the early 1980s and Niko and I can’t compete with them.  Half the questions in that edition took place well before we even existed.

We woke up at the normal time this morning and ate some oatmeal and then went out to a movie (or a “picture show” as Niko’s parents call it).  They went and saw the latest Bond movie and Niko and I went to see Twilight – a movie based off the book of the same title bu Stephenie Meyer.  The books are GREAT…they are teen romance novels, so it’s not like they use big words or are well written – but the storylines are addicting.  I’ve read the first two books.  We went to buy the third (there are four) – but the bookstore was sold out.  Anyway – the movie was good.  I liked it a lot.  I thought that they case Edward and Bella perfectly.  Some of the other roles were not cast well, but overall – it was a good movie in comparison to the book.  They had to “Hollywood” some of the storylines, but stayed close to the main themes of the book.  I can’t wait until I can get my hands on the third book….

Tonight, we went to celebrate my friend Meg’s birthday.  Fancy dinner.  I am tired.  I can’t fathom writing anything.  Tomorrow, we leave for Niko’s parents house for a few days.  I’m nervous about leaving the cats alone at home…but Meg, being the true friend she is, volunteered to check in on them on Sunday night.  So it gives me some solace.  I’m going to bed.  Sleep sleep sleep.
